In 2011, our founder, Jason Regler, stood in a field watching Coldplay at Glastonbury. When Formula 1 needed to celebrate its 75th anniversary with a high-production-value event for a live and broadcast audience, we didn’t just provide wristbands. We engineered custom LED Lanyards—the Xylo Pendant—with multiple branding options for different teams and hospitality tiers. This allowed the show’s creative team to design dynamic effects that segmented the audience, turning The O2 Arena into a fine-grained canvas of light and brand identity.

    This expansion of form factors, from LED Bracelets to LED Orbs, isn’t about creating novelty. It’s about expanding the creative palette. Every piece of hardware is a new tool for designers, a new way to craft LED Crowd Experiences, and a new way to solve a client’s unique challenge, whether it’s for a concert, festival, or one-of-a-kind Corporate Event Activations.

    2. The Invisible Network: The Software That Breathes Life into Light

    The visible spectacle of a million points of light pulsing in unison is powered by an invisible architecture of software and radio-frequency technology. The true magic of Xylobands lies in the seamless, instantaneous control of tens of thousands of individual devices in RF-saturated environments like stadiums and arenas.

    Our software R&D is a constant battle against interference, latency, and failure. It’s about building a zero-failure system, because when you’re live with an artist like Maluma or Wizkid, or broadcasting to millions with a partner like ITV, there are no second chances.

    This involves continuous refinement of our radio control systems, ensuring the signal is robust enough to command 50,000 Concert Wristbands in a Colombian stadium or 20,000 across three sold-out nights at a London arena. It means developing software that is not only powerful but also intuitive, allowing lighting designers to paint with crowds as easily as they would with a static lighting rig. This focus on the underlying technology is what transforms a simple LED Band into a sophisticated piece of Immersive Event Technology.

    3. The Global Circuit: The Unseen Logistics of Spectacle

    Perhaps the most underappreciated area of R&D is in logistics. How do you deploy, activate, and, crucially, retrieve and recycle 32,000 wristbands for a tour like Wizkid’s? How do you ensure 13,000 custom pendants for an F1 event are pre-positioned in precise seating locations to achieve a specific creative effect?

    This is the science of spectacle. Our R&D in this arena has led to streamlined systems for distribution, advanced battery-saving protocols for multi-day events like the Primer Music Festival, and circular economy models for collection and responsible recycling. For Wizkid’s historic three-night run at The O2, our operational R&D enabled the reuse of wristbands, minimizing waste while ensuring a flawless show each night. This logistical backbone is the unsung hero that makes breathtaking Immersive Events possible on a global scale.

    The Client as Catalyst

    Our greatest R&D asset is our client list. We don’t see collaborations with brands like Nike, Samsung, and Google or sporting bodies like FIFA and the Davis Cup as simple contracts. We see them as partnerships in innovation.

    A high-stakes brand activation for Audi pushes us to refine the aesthetic and perceived value of our products. A global broadcast for the Eurovision Song Contest forces us to perfect the way our lights render on camera. The raw energy of a festival crowd at Primer pushes our systems’ durability and battery performance. Each unique challenge, from creating branded Custom LED Wristbands to developing complex crowd-segmentation cues for a TV show like Beat The Chasers, becomes a catalyst for innovation.
